Most double butted spokes are 2.0mm at the head, then 1.8mm in the centre and then 2.0mm at the thread. (Often referred to as a 14/15/14g spoke) The Pillar Triple Butted Spoke, has all those standard features, but improves things by adding a very short 2.2mm butted section at the spoke head to strengthen it at this high load area. In both real world and laboratory testing, this has proven to strengthen the spoke at this crucial point by 4 times over a regular (non Pillar) spoke. All of this with no weight penalty.
